Open Source AI Coding Tool

A tool whose source code is freely available under a permissive license.

Open source AI coding tools let anyone read, modify, and redistribute the code. The model itself is usually still proprietary — you're getting the runtime, the UI, and the agent loop under an open license. OpenCode (MIT), Aider (Apache), Continue (Apache), and Cline (Apache) are all open source.
